The wait is over, with the introduction of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus we can now begin to evaluate them against their mainstream competitors.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus vs. the Competition

Is it worth all the hype? Let’s dive in and see.

Well, the brand new iPhone 6 and its best buddy, the iPhone 6 Plus, are finally here! [Crowd goes wild] When they were unveiled on September 9th, the big question on everyone's lips was – ‘How will they measure up against the competition?’, ‘How will they deliver something new?.’  So right here, we put Apple's latest inventions to the test by comparing and contrasting them with their major rivals, including the Galaxy S5, the HTC One M8 and the Lumia 930.

Size matters in the world of the Smartphone

Apple has clearly taken notice of the growing trend for bigger phones, and has given screen size a boost. The iPhone 6 boasts a 4.7 inch diagonal screen (in comparison with the 5's 4-inches), while the iPhone 6 Plus goes jumbo with 5.5 inches. So you're left with a choice between two extremes. If you go for the competitors, on the hand, you're going for something more in the middle: both the HTC One M8 and the Lumia 930 have 5-inch screens, while the Galaxy S5's is 5.1 and the Moto X's is 5.2.

Also, you might want to take weight into consideration. The iPhone 6 weighs 129 grams, while the 6 Plus comes in at 172 grams. The competitors range between 145 grams, which is the weight of the Galaxy S5, and 167 grams, which is the weight of the Lumia 930.

Resolution and display among the Smartphone competitors

When it comes to resolution, the iPhone 6, at 1334 x 750 with 326 ppi, still lags behind the pack. But the 6 Plus, at 1920 x 1080 with 401 ppi, is right on par with prominent rivals. However, it's important to remember that Apple's amazing Retina HD Display certainly goes a long way in making up for this disparity - it's hard to find brighter colours anywhere.

How much storage do you need on your mobile?

Apple has, again, opted for extremes in the area of storage. The medium-sized 32GB iPhone has gone out the window, leaving you with three options: 16GB, 64GB and 128GB. These apply to both the 6 and the 6 Plus. To get significant memory out of competing smart phones, you would need to opt for the HTC One M8 or the Galaxy S5, both of which can provide 128GB, but only with the addition of an SD Card. So how you measure them up against one another depends on your approach to convenience.
