It's Official: Apple's October 22 2013 Event Really Delivered

Since Apple rumours began about the up-coming announcement of new iPad’s and Mac Books we have been super excited to hear what little gems of technology were going to be released. We have not been disappointed by the offerings of Apple’s October 22, 2013 event.

Apple’s iPad Air

It is the fifth generation of Apple’s well-received iPad device. They have called the brilliant new lighter and thinner design ‘iPad Air’. It has been packed full of features and updates to rival the best tablets currently on the market. Apple has confirmed the new iPad performance is two times more powerful than the previous model. It also boasts a 72x improvement to the graphics quality compared with the original iPad.

Here are the details of the iPad Air:

  • A 24.6 cm screen with 2048 x 1536 resolution and 3.1 million pixels
  • It is 7.5mm in thickness – 20% thinner
  • It weighs 469g – 28% lighter
  • Has the new A7 chip, 64-bit architecture and M7 coprocessor
  • Two antennas
  • MIMO technology
  • Up to 10 hours battery life

iPad Mini with Retina Display

The newest addition to the mini iPad category was also unveiled at Apple’s October 22, 2013 event. It met expectations that the new model would be given the Retina display of its big brother. The iPad Mini with retina display has a CPU that is four times faster and graphics that are eight times better than its predecessor. It also offers users twice as fast wireless connection than the original so you can make quick and easy connections all over the world.

Apple OS X Mavericks

Apple also announced new inclusions to their computers and operating systems. They revealed that their new OS X Mavericks will be available for free download starting in just over a week’s time. The system comes with updated features and improvements such as:

  • Multiple finder tabs
  • App Nap – to minimise power drainage
  • iCloud Keychain
  • More responsive Safari
  • Improved notifications system

Mac Pro and Mac Book Pro

They also announced a new Mac Pro and new Mac Books to the eager world. The Mac Pro is reserved for serious computer buffs that are willing to spend at least $3,000 to take home a premium system that boasts an Intel Xenon 5 Quad-Core processor and 4K display support. It also has a 3.0GHz 8-core processor with 25MB L3 cache and 12GB of DDR3 ECC memory which is configurable to 16GB. The new MacBook Pro also got an update to include a thinner, lighter frame thanks to the new Intel Haswell chips.
