Samsung: Ahead of the Curve

What started off as a rumour can now be confirmed! Samsung are in the process of releasing the world’s first curved display smartphone.

Images have been leaked of the rather unconventional phone and we don’t know whether to love it or hate it! The name ‘Galaxy Round’ is not very original but we won’t hold that against it. The phone will be the first to utilise Samsung’s flexible screen technology and with this device they have gone for a side to side curve to fit snug in the hands of the user.

Advantages of the Galaxy’s Curve

So why would Samsung go for a side to side curve? According to Samsung it means;

  • Clearer visuals

  • Extra scratch resistance & strength

We suspect that on its release we will get a plethora of additional advantages but until then this is all we have to go on.

Where is the new Samsung Available?

At the moment it is in the retail process in Korea running on a version of the Android OS. When we found this out we had to ask, why Korea for the launch? SK Telecom the rumoured mobile carrier to be working in conjunction with Samsung, also runs one of the only LTE-Advanced data networks in the world, which brings us to believe the new smartphone will be able to connect to it.

Features of the Galaxy Round

Samsung claim to offer ‘exclusive experiences’ for its user of the Galaxy Round. This includes the roll feature that will allow the user to check the time, date, missed calls and battery life with the display off.  Consumers will also be able to use the tilt functionality to control aspects like; music, pictures and videos. Things like running multiple applications in the same window - not a problem for the Galaxy Round!  With regards specs, the new Samsung Galaxy creation features an epic 5.7-inch super AMOLED display, weights 154 grams with an approximate waist line of 7.9mm.

So if you’re not a fan of bigger phones this may not be ideal for you! To manage such a mammoth screen size, Galaxy are offering features like the One-Hand Operation, which lets the user customise controls on specific areas of the display.  The Galaxy Round will run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor, and comes complete with 32GB or 64GB of internal memory.  Getting down to every snap happy selfie addicts most influential selling point – What megapixel is the camera!? The Round will use a 13-megapixel rear facing camera and a 2MP front-facing camera for video chat and the all-important selfie!

Currently the Galaxy Round is only available in ‘Luxury Brown’ having said this more colours will follow upon release you can be sure of it. As one of the world’s leaders in innovation technology we are expecting the new Galaxy Round to push boundaries and showcase an advanced level of functionality showing users something they’ve never seen before.  Let’s hope it lives up to expectations.  Samsung, may the odds be ever in your favour!
